There are two main functions of task lighting. One is to provide a bright work light in the kitchen for food prep and safety. The other is to provide an ambient light for accenting a backsplash, countertop and general kitchen atmosphere. When using task lighting for a work area or kitchen counter, make sure you have enough light. Depending upon the task and your age, you may need 50 footcandles or more. For the best looking and most natural type of under cabinet task lighting, use light fixtures that are in the range of 3000K to 3500K color temperature. Also, in addition to color temperature, find a color rendering index (CRI) that is 80 or higher, preferably between 90 and 100 to show colors naturally and accurately.
Save energy with task lights that are energy efficient, such as the PRIORI T2 Fluorescent Task Light. Some under cabinet lights can use up to 40 watts per foot! That is a lot of unnecessary wattage and heat. New subminiature T2 technology provides 40 lumens per watt and only uses about 8 watts per foot. By lowering the wattage used, it also lowers the heat produces. Watts will produce light and heat. The more efficient the light fixture, the less heat build up!
Under cabinet task lights are designed with light distribution specifically for task lighting. Using other fixtures like pucks for task lighting is possible, but will not provide the optimal distribution for a kitchen counter work area. Many task lights have low profiles that will hide easily under the kitchen cabinet frames. Use PRIORI T2 task lighting for the many benefits it provides.
PRIORI Xenon Task Lights are dimmable which makes them versatile, while saving energy. Set light levels high for food prep, then dim by either the “low” setting on the fixture or with a wall control dimmer to create ambient light, accent light or even a night light effect.
