Shelf lighting creates an attractive focus for a room and highlights trophies, art objects, special photographs and anything else important to you. By focusing light in a narrow way onto a specific object, it becomes more beautiful and of higher importance and priority than the things around it. Puck lights are great tools for shelf lighting because they can light from above the shelf or be under shelf lights. Puck lights create pools of light that attract attention. They also create scallops of light on the wall that add visual interest to a room. Space the puck lights at least 12” apart and use odd numbers whenever possible for the best look.
If the book case shelf is narrow, try using incandescent or LED rope lighting. This works best if each shelf has a reveal to tuck the rope lights behind in order to hide them. Try using clear mounting track that will keep the rope light in place without drooping or sagging where it will become visible. LED rope light is a great choice for book case lighting since it does not product UV. Many old and out of print books have a lot of value and can be damaged by UV. Their value is high only if they are in good condition. Using LED rope lights keeps them safe from ultraviolet light, reduces heat buildup and lasts for years without replacing bulbs.
